Position: Highways Working Party – LMCR/CAB – Personnel – Long Marston Village Hall – Planning – Bank Signatory

Status: Active

About

My wife and I have lived in Long Marston for more than 20 years. I am a retired Secondary Headteacher and have two grown-up daughters and two grandchildren who live locally.

I have been a Councillor since 2017 and was elected Chair in 2021. I view my role as finding the most effective means of meeting the needs and wishes of residents and not in pursuing any personal or political agenda.

Since becoming a Councillor, I have worked across many projects, such as liaising with the Highways Agency to improve road safety in the village, strategising about boosting social cohesion and refreshing facilities. In all areas, I strongly believe that communities need to have their say in what happens and input their ideas.

In my time as a Councillor and as Chair, I have come to realise the importance of being realistic about what it is possible to achieve. Parish Councils only have a certain level of effectiveness when working with both Borough Councils and County Councils, as they have many competing priorities. I work to give our Parish the strongest possible voice, liaising with borough and county Councillors as much as possible and balancing the needs of everyone across our villages.
